Zec Mitchinamecus is located in a semi-mountainous territory. The most impressive summits reach their highest point at 545 m (1,800 feet). This zec comprises 423 lakes and several streams, as well as the Mitchinamecus River and the Mitchinamecus Reservoir, which cover a total surface area of 13,909 hectares. Balsam Fir-Yellow Birch stands dominate the forest cover on the zec's territory. There are some softwood species such as balsam fir, black spruce, white spruce, jack pine, larch, white pine, red pine, cedar and hemlock. As for hardwoods, white birch, yellow birch, trembling aspen, sugar maple, red maple and beech are the main species found.
The zec has 5 campgrounds rustique for a total of 379 sites including 362 seasonal sites and 17 sites for short-stay campers. Two checkpoints control access to the territory. The first one is located near Des Polonais Lake (D'Argent Lake) Côte du Réservoir Mitchinamecus. |
